Assistant Professor Neurosciences

The Department of Zoology at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in neurosciences starting Fall, 2018. We seek a broadly trained experimental neuroscientist with expertise at the molecular and cellular level. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Professor level and will be expected to 1) teach upper and lower division lecture and laboratory courses in his/her area(s) of expertise, 2) establish an active and sustained research program that includes mentoring undergraduate students; 3) seek external funding in support of teaching or research; and, 4) establish collaborations with colleagues in the College of Science and throughout the University.  We are especially interested in persons who have the necessary qualifications and experience to teach Cell Biology, a required majors course.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Neurosciences, Cell Biology or related fields. Candidates who expect to complete a Ph.D. by the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester also will be considered.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and interest in using innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to conducting high-quality research and to mentoring undergraduate researchers.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Postdoctoral experience.
  • Interest or experience integrating research or other high-impact practices into classroom instruction.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students from underserved populations.
  • Experience in collaborative research with on-campus colleagues and / or off-campus entities and organizations.
  • Ability to forge connections along disciplinary interfaces to address opportunities and challenges of neuroscience.
