Microbial Metagenomics Core Facility Director

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center invites applications for the position of Director of the Microbiome Research Laboratory (MRL). UT Southwestern is developing the MRL as a collaborative service to support researchers and clinicians on campus who wish to use microbial metagenomics in their activities. The MRL will allow researchers and clinicians to access a complete microbial metagenomic analysis pipeline encompassing study design, sample processing, sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis of data. The MRL will leverage outstanding core facilities already available on the UT Southwestern campus, including the Genomics & Microarray Core facility and the Bioinformatics Core facility, while also establishing new capabilities including microbial metagenomic sample preparation, library generation, and data interpretation. A key mission of the MRL will be to stay abreast of cutting-edge trends in metagenomic sequencing technology and bioinformatic analysis, with the goal of making innovations in these areas rapidly available to UT Southwestern investigators.

The MRL Director is a Research Track faculty position (non-tenure track). The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain the capabilities of the MRL as a campus-wide resource that will serve the needs of UT Southwestern basic scientists and clinicians. Candidates should have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience in microbial metagenomics.

UT Southwestern has a strong tradition of academic excellence, an exceptionally collegial and collaborative culture, and outstanding core facilities within a cutting-edge research infrastructure. The successful candidate will be joining an interactive and distinguished faculty that includes six Nobel Laureates, fourteen members of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and twenty-three members of the National Academy of Sciences.
