Postdoctoral Researcher in bioinformatic/computational biology

Research at the Clinical Epidemiology Unit (KEP) combines clinical, epidemiological, and biostatistical expertise with the aim to improve the understanding and treatment of a broad range of medical conditions. We focused on translational research studies to improve prediction of disease onset, treatment effects, and disease outcomes.
We are seeking a bioinformatician/computational biologist to support research activities in the field of gastrointestinal disease (PI Mauro D'Amato, http://ki.se/en/people/maudam), with focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and biomarker discovery through computational data integration and high-throughput patient's molecular profiling.
The successful candidate will take on the processing, quality control, pre-analysis and analysis of a variety of high-throughput molecular data (genetic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, proteomic etc) coming from large cohort of Swedish treatment-naïve IBD patients and patients at treatment initiation with biologics. He/she is also expected to contribute the development of analytical strategies aimed at leveraging the complexity of multi-omics data, in order to assess the impact of genetic variants on multiple regulatory dimensions, from transcriptional to post-translational. He/she will also be responsible for the reporting of project results to colleagues within the consortium, and collaborators and peers at international meetings.
The position is available immediately for 2 years (till the end of 2019), with the possibility for extension depending on available funds.
- PhD in Bioinformatics or related area.- Experienced user of R/Bioconductor, Python and programming languages. Use of version control systems and dynamic report generation. Unix environments and high-performance computing clusters.- Demonstrated knowledge of bioinformatic and computational approaches to the study of human genetics and “omics”, and good understanding of “biology” (biological questions)- Demonstrated ability to work with different type of genetic, epigenetic (DNA methylation, miRNA), proteomic, transcriptomic data, and large complex datasets (GWAS, EWAS etc)- Good knowledge of omics data integration methods and meta-analyses- Additional background in statistics, machine learning and/or predictive analytics is a plus- Team-work attitude, impeccable organizational skills, and previous participation in international research activities/projects/publications- Excellent spoken and written English.A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.
