Professor of Business Administration specialising in accounting

Umeå School of Business and Economics is announcing an appointment as Professor of Business Administration specialising in accounting.

Work tasks

The appointment involves leading research and developing the research environment within the field of accounting. This is achieved through personal research as well as teaching and supervision, primarily at second and third-cycle level. We are looking for a professor who can develop and coordinate research within business administration with a specialisation in accounting, and who is expected to actively conduct research, publish in established journals and help to obtain external funding on their own behalf as well as for others. Professors at Umeå School of Business and Economics are also expected to participate in teaching, primarily within their field of specialisation, and interact with organisations outside the University at the local, national and/or international level. The place of employment is Umeå and a professor is expected to take part in the department's local activities.

Eligibility requirements

Eligibility for the position requires research and teaching proficiency of significance for the appointment's specialisation, which is accounting.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for the appointment of a professor is the same degree of research proficiency as is required to qualify for employment. Assessment criteria also include teaching proficiency, administrative skills and cooperation ability.

Research proficiency is demonstrated through independent research work at a high international level, the ability to plan and lead research activities and the ability to communicate research within the research community and in society in general. The University is looking for a candidate with a strong focus on accounting and auditing. Professors need leadership skills, particularly the ability to cooperate well with others.

Teaching proficiency relates to the teacher's cooperation with students, the teacher's own pedagogical development and contributions to educational development. This includes participation in third-cycle activities, such as doctoral supervision and participation in the design and implementation of courses and seminars.

Administrative skills means the ability to develop and lead activities and staff. This may involve taking on a management role in programmes, units or research programmes. Another aspect considered is collaboration, which includes intellectual contributions to society outside the University.

The weighing of different assessment criteria

In prioritising assessment criteria, research proficiency shall be assigned the greatest importance. Great emphasis will also be placed on teaching proficiency. Administrative experience and collaboration will also be evaluated as assessment criteria. It is a merit to have published in scientific journals in the fields of accounting and auditing, thus it is primarily articles within these fields that will be considered. It is also a merit to have received external funding for research.

Particular weight will be given to experience with teaching in English. Fluency in Swedish, both written and spoken, will also be considered.

The eligibility requirements and assessment criteria are set out in the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at Umeå University, which you can find here.

Application

Please apply using our e-recruitment system. Guidelines on how to formulate the application are given in the Faculty of Social Sciences' instructions, which you can find here. See also the faculty's guidelines for the assessment of matters concerning professors, here.
