Postdoctoral fellowship in quantitative ecology of mesopelagicogranisms
A 4-year postdoctoral position is available in the Plankton Research Group at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Bergen, Norway. Recent years have seen an increased interest in marine mesopelagic resources at the national and international level. Therefore, the Plankton Research Group is looking to further develop its expertise in quantitative ecology, with special emphasis on biomass estimations of mesopelagic plankton and micronekton.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in marine biology or physics, preferably with experience in acoustics. Candidates with a doctorate degree in biology combined with underwater acoustics, or a degree in physics combined with an interest and experience in marine biology, will be prioritized. Additional experience in mesopelagic zooplankton taxonomy is also desirable. The successful candidate should also have experience from extended research cruises and knowledge of plankton and micronekton collection techniques.
The successful candidate will attend a number of research cruises of 2-4 weeks duration each year. The applicant should demonstrate good communication and teamworking skills, while maintaining a focus and be able to work independently in an interdisciplinary field of research. The candidate should also be fluent in English and Norwegian (oral and written). A course in Norwegian will be provided for international candidates.
We offer a challenging and creative work environment at a national institute with an international outreach. We have flexible work hours as well as a good pension plan and welfare package.
The position as a 1352 postdoctoral candidate is paid in accordance with government employees (Statens regulativ) and gross salary is deducted 2% for the National Pension Fund (Statens Pensjonskasse).
