Creative, innovative research will be channelled to multidisciplinary platforms, the first of which has already begun operating: the Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Centre (VEBIC). In addition, new opportunities will be created in research related to the digital economy and creative business innovation.

As of 1 January 2018, the University will have four Schools: Management, Accounting and Finance, Marketing and Communication, and Technology and Innovation.

This is a fixed-term position for 3-5 years with a start date of 1 January 2018 unless otherwise agreed. The position will be filled at either Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on the applicant's merits.


The position is connected to the Networked Value Systems (NeVS) research group within the Department of Management at the Faculty of Business Studies (from January 2018 School of Management). Research within the NeVS group focuses on strategies, strategy processes and practices, services of industrial companies, and inter-organizational networks and relationships. NeVS is a multidisciplinary research program that combines both strategic management and operations management capabilities. The tasks of the Assistant Professor include independent academic research, teaching duties as well as administrative tasks.

The tasks of the Associate Professor include independent academic research and an appropriate degree of organizational responsibility. The Associate Professor assumes overall responsibility for their own research activities, university administration as well as teaching and supervision within the above broad areas of expertise.

The annual working time for both the Assistant and Associate Professor is 1624 hours. The tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan.


Both positions require a relevant doctoral degree, the ability to conduct independent scientific work and deliver high-quality teaching. A proven track record in international scientific publishing is especially valued.

In addition, the position of Associate Professor requires solid research experience, the ability to lead a research team and acquire external research funding, as well as manage research projects and budgets. Researcher mobility and active participation in international scientific research networks are also looked upon favorably.

Since the position's teaching and supervision is focused on the Master's Program in Strategic Business Development, evidence of the applicant's experience in the field of Strategic Management is emphasized in the selection process.

Fluency in English is a prerequisite to succeed in the position. If the candidate is a foreigner or a Finnish citizen who is not a native or has not been educated in Finnish, they may be granted an exemption from the Finnish language proficiency requirement. The selected candidate is expected to acquire the necessary Finnish language skills needed in the position within a reasonable time period. The supervisor and candidate will define and agree upon what this time period is.


The salary is based on the University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The salary for an Assistant Professor is based on demand levels 5-6 (2852-3326 €/month), and for an Associate Professor levels 6-7 (3340-3851 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance (4-46.3%).
