Assistant Professor of Biology-Tenure Track

Washington and Jefferson College (W&J), a residential, selective liberal arts college located thirty miles from the thriving city of Pittsburgh, PA., is searching for teacher-scholars who are dedicated to creating a personal, connected and transformative learning experience for an increasingly diverse 21st century student body.  We seek creative and adaptable individuals who are able to establish an inclusive educational environment in which everyone’s voice is heard and appreciated and individuality is celebrated.  W&J is dedicated to the values of a liberal arts education that is both liberating and practical, promotes the close interaction between faculty and students, and supports a community committed to multicultural and global understanding.

The Biology Department at Washington and Jefferson (W&J) College invites applicants for a full-time tenure track assistant professor position starting in fall 2018.  We are seeking a computational biologist with expertise in molecular biology and bioinformatics who will teach lecture and laboratory courses including molecular biology, foundations in cell and molecular biology, and genomics.  The candidate may also participate in interdisciplinary programs including the Computational Science concentration, biochemistry, and an integrated freshman experience (First-year Seminar).  In addition to teaching, the candidate will be expected to develop a research program involving undergraduate students.  Teaching, advising and working with undergraduates are the most important aspects of the position, therefore, a successful candidate must provide evidence of excellence in teaching and involving undergraduate students in research.

To apply, send a curriculum vitae, graduate and undergraduate transcripts, statements of teaching philosophy and research interests, and three letters of recommendation as email attachments to hr@washjeff.edu and include Biology Faculty Search in the subject line of your email.

Completed applications must be received no later than December 1, 2017.
