The research program aims to develop methodological approaches to the modeling of complex systems and components for energy conversion and apply these approaches to the analysis of their typical operating conditions, optimize the configuration, the design parameters and the operation. The methods that are applied are based on approaches such as network systems and continuous systems, but also on the use of model reduction techniques, such as the proper orthogonal decomposition, neural networks, etc. Some examples of systems and components that are being applied are district heating systems, geothermal heat pumps, phase change storage systems. These methods will also be applied to systems characterized by large spatial extent, for the analysis of the effects of geothermal heat pumps in the ground or forest fire propagation.
