Sustainable control methods for agricultural pest arthropods and their practical applications
Sustainable management of pest arthropods is among the major topics in modern agriculture because methods based only on synthetic insecticides have unacceptable drawbacks on the environment. Although several habitat manipulation techniques mostly aimed at increasing biodiversity in agroecosystems are available, the cases of practical implementation by Italian farmers are still very scattered. The researcher's activity will be aimed at studying the strategies for sustainable management of pests that may have higher possibility of uptake by farmers in Emilia-Romagna region. The research will be focused on key insect pests of orchard and horticultural crops and the researcher will be involved in bibliographic surveys, project proposals, experimental planning and all the steps of field experiment execution.
