(Contract) Sr./Principal Research Associate, Rare Diseases

Position Summary

We seek a talented, experienced and motivated Sr./Principal Research Associate for a 4 month contract position to assist in developing the preclinical data package to support the advancement of Moderna's rare disease pipeline. The successful candidate is an accomplished hands-on cellular and molecular pharmacologist and will work closely with staff scientists to design and execute preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies.  The ability to effectively communicate with internal team members is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop all necessary in vitro/ex vivo assays to measure RNA levels (PCR, B-DNA), expressed protein levels (ELISA, Western blotting, capillary electrophoresis) and biochemical activity assays of novel mRNA therapeutics
  • Execute and troubleshoot standard protocols, adapt new protocols into practice with little assistance, and query literature to incorporate additional assays as needed
  • Independently plan experiments
  • Deliver rigorous results in aggressive timelines
  • Colaborate with other members within the research group and broadly with departments throughout the company
  • Analyze, interpret and present data to internal parties

Qualifications

  • BA/MS with 5-10 years of experience, preferably in industry setting
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture,  protein detection methods, molecular biology techniques, and enzyme activity assays
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with nucleic acid therapies and disease biomarker assessment
  • Knowledge/understanding of pathways and MOAs involved in rare diseases initiation and progression
