Job Description

With limited supervision, provides support related to importing and exporting commodities and applying for duty drawbacks to the Import/Export Compliance team. Audits import entries and export transmissions, maintains reports and prepares forms required for global import/export. Maintains records and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices. Provides general administrative support to the department.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Audits import entries, vendor invoices, annual internal audit of import/export records, chart of account audits and export electronic information transmissions. Duties include:

  • Import invoice coding and approvals for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Traffic - reconciles and ensures accuracy of third-party vendor billings
  • Third-party invoice duty approvals - reconciles and ensures accuracy of broker charges
  • Import auditing - ensure accuracy of customs declarations
  • Electronic export information (EEI) auditing - ensure accuracy of transmitted information for exports

2. Maintains records and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices for global import/export documentation. Maintains country specific records, pre-reviews, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) files and broker error logs. Serves as department Records Management Coordinator.

3. Supports projects and maintains spreadsheets with data used for department scorecards. Assists in the development of reports as needed. Tracks invoices and completes forms required for global import/export compliance. Runs weekly and monthly FTA reports.

4. Makes Post Entry Amendments (PEA) with Customs when audit results indicate entries need to be amended.

5. Updates foreign import matrices to determine documentation requirements, sample limitations and restrictions, what needs to be included in certificates, FTA quarterly duty savings, etc. Requires a strong understanding of FTAs, how goods are qualified for NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) and working closely with markets to determine and document requirements and savings.

6. Performs research and special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education: High school diploma required.
Experience: 1-2 years of customs broker/ freight forwarding experience importing/exporting commodities.

1. Knowledge of import and export regulations, including Free Trade Agreements and NAFTA, and applying for duty drawbacks.
2. Must be highly organized, accurate and have a strong attention to detail-.
3. Must have the ability to multi-task and possess a sense of urgency.
4. Must have good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Must be computer proficient and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office software products-primarily Word and Excel; additionally, proficiency with PowerPoint preferred.
6. Must have knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, business systems such as ESI, etc.
7. Must understand the impact and importance of data integrity in business systems.
