Merck Research Lab is currently
recruiting for a summer intern within Data Analytics & Scientific
Methodology, the Center for Observational and Real-world Evidence (CORE). DA&SM
supports reimbursement through Real World Databases (RWD) studies, novel
scientific methodology, and machine learning.

Responsibilities may include (but
are not limited to):

- Collaborate with internal
stakeholders to translate study concepts into analytic plans.
- Develop or oversee the
development of study protocols and study analysis plans.
- Execute or oversee the execution
of study analysis plans using real world databases.
- Lead, design, and execute
predictive modeling studies using machine learning techniques.

At the conclusion of the term,
the Intern will share results and recommended actions as a final project

This is a paid intern targeted to
start in May/June 2018 – August 2018.

interest in supporting human health and drug discovery, and have the ability to
compare and contrast results from various methodologies, and recommend the best

- Required:
Candidates must be currently pursuing a Master or PhD degree in
Statistics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science,
economics, informatics, pharmacy administration, health services research,
or related quantitative field
- Candidates
must be returning to school in the Fall of 2018
- Candidates
must have completed at least two semesters of graduate courses by May 31,


- Candidates
must be available to work full-time for 9-12 weeks beginning in May or June
of 2018
- Candidates
must have minimum of (1) year of healthcare domain knowledge
in life sciences, health data, health IT and/or the payer marketplace.
- Candidates
must have knowledge and experience in SAS or other tools
- Candidates
must have experience applying real-world healthcare data in a
health-related industry, academic or research setting
- Candidates
must have an understanding of data mining algorithms and experience
applying advanced techniques to large data sets
- Candidates
must be persistent and driven: Demonstrated characteristics of a forward
thinker and self-motivator that thrives on new challenges and adapts to
learning new knowledge
- Candidates
must have entrepreneurial and intellectual curiosity in the application
and communication of health data


- Knowledge
in advanced analytics and machine learning techniques. This includes
expertise in analytics platforms such as Matlab, R, Python; research
experience in analyzing big datasets
- Experience
working with longitudinal real world data assets (e.g., claims, electronic
medical records, genomic data, consumer data, social media data,
- Understanding
of business processes in one or more of discovery, research, clinical,
commercial, regulatory or safety domains
- An
understanding of the payment reform or payer-provider structures
