The project is part of a nationally-financed research project entitled “Knowledge Dissemination across media in English: Continuity and change in discourse strategies, ideologies, and epistemologies”. The project sets out to:

contribute to the study of the mechanisms underlying the transmission of specialised knowledge in a diachronic perspective, from the beginning of the seventeenth century until the first decades of the twentieth. Particular focus will be given to print texts, especially news texts, but also including other macro genre texts;

compile a digital corpus of news texts, in which the strategies and practices of the transmission of knowledge with corpus linguistic methodologies will be studied. The corpus can be used to test various electronic, software tools so as to study their usefulness in the study of historical texts.
