The project aims at a timely and specific diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Both are complex, clinically and genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative diseases. The early diagnosis allows to initiate a possible therapeutic treatmenrt when neuronal function is not yet severely altered and when the probability of a response to therapy is greater. Genetic analyzes will include genetic screening for known and not known mutations in patients with familial and sporadic forms of the diseases. Cerebrospinal biomarkers will be analyzed in the differential diagnosis between AD and FTD. Neuroimaging techniques will allow to evaluate the presence of cortical atrophy and cerebral hypometabolism, different for each subgroup of patients. The correlations between the various studies can provide useful information for the development of a standard diagnostic protocol for dementias
