This research contract is necessary for the development of an ongoing project about the identification of factors with prognostic usefulness in the clinical approach to bicuspid aortopathy. As already highlighted in previous studies by this proposing research team, the identification of biomolecular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of the aortopathy associated with congenital bicuspid aortic valve can be an important preliminary step for the development of criteria of risk stratification. Concerning the heterogeneity of manifestations of this disease the biomolecular differences (TGF-beta pathway, methalloproteinases, oxidative stress, polyammine, etc.) between different anatomo-clinical phenotypes will be focused on.
