The research fellow will conduct a census of the epigraphic forgeries written in Latin and allegedly attributed to the ancient world, which originate from the central and eastern areas of the modern Veneto region (corresponding to the central part of the tenth Augustan region - Venetia et Histria). This corpus comprises approximately 250-300 fake inscriptions. The research will begin with a close examination of the section of the fifth volume of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum (CIL) devoted to the Inscriptiones falsae vel alienae and will carry on with an extensive review of more recent literature, which has never been the object of a systematic study. The digital edition of fake inscriptions will be made available through the online database EDF (Epigraphic Database Falsae), whose accomplishment is one of the main goals of the Italian National Research Project led by Dr Calvelli.
