Assistant Professor—Plant Biologist
Biological Sciences Department
POSITION: Full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the Biological Sciences department beginning in fall 2018
START DATE: 09-01-2018
Teach introductory biology courses and a course on the interface between biology and society. The faculty member will have the opportunity to teach upper-level biology students in an elective in their area of expertise.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in plant biology or a related field whose area of expertise complements the existing research foci of the department; research areas could include plant – microbe/fungal/viral/insect interactions, hormone signaling, metabolomics, genomics/proteomics of complex traits, adaptation to a changing environment, or other area in plant biology; evidence of engaging undergraduate students in the classroom and research; evidence of scholarly productivity with peer-reviewed publications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral experience; who utilize molecular, cellular, and/or physiological approaches; whose research may have broader applications.
THE DEPARTMENT: The Biological Sciences Department is an energetic academic department with 15 tenured/tenure-track faculty committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly productivity, and involvement of undergraduates in research. The College is a popular choice for New York State residents, but also draws students from all 50 states and has a growing international student population. Biological Sciences resides in a recently renovated building with modern microscopy, cellular and molecular facilities, a new greenhouse complex, and individual faculty research laboratories. Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education in Adirondack State Park are college-owned facilities available for field research by faculty and students. The department houses a herbarium with a collection of vascular plants and fungi from North America and the Neotropics. Opportunities exist for productive research collaborations with other institutions in our area (Cornell University, Binghamton University, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and Syracuse University). The New York State Agriculture Experiment Station is located nearby in Geneva, NY.
