Assistant/Associate Professor, Acute Care and Critical Care Surgery

The Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Acute Care and Critical Care Surgery, in the College of Medicine at The Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania, seeks candidates for a research tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of basic/translational research related to critical illness and/or trauma, with expertise in innovative methods and data science related to the study of studying inflammation, immune function, shock, or hypoxia. A joint appointment will be included for this position with the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology. The candidate will be expected to conduct independent and collaborative research and to participate in graduate-level teaching in an academic surgery department with an expanding research base and exciting opportunities for research and training of residents in surgery. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with physician-researchers as well as to develop an independent research program. Requirements for the position include doctoral and post-doctoral training in a related area, an academic record of peer-reviewed publications in which they are a primary/senior author, and evidence of participation in relevant academic or professional meetings. Preference will be given to a track record of extramural funding from federal agencies, commensurate to the stage of a candidate`s professional development. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and credentials; startup funds are available for the development of an independent career. The College of Medicine has excellent Core facilities, and a highly collaborative group of surgeons and scientists.
