As of 1 January 2018, the University will have four Schools: Management, Accounting and Finance, Marketing and Communication, and Technology and Innovation.

This is a fixed term contract for 3-5 years with a start date at the beginning of January 2018 or as agreed. Depending on the applicant's merits, the position will be filled either as Assistant or Associate Professor. An applicant considered particularly qualified, may be employed as an Associate Professor on a permanent basis.

The position is located in the Faculty of Business Studies within the Department of Accounting and Finance (as of January 2018 School of Accounting and Finance). The Department is internationally renowned for its high-quality research and is Finland's largest department in accounting and finance. The research in Accounting and Finance is divided between two research groups: “Auditing and Control in Accounting” and “Finance and Financial Accounting”. The department currently employs seven professors and about 30 other individuals in a range of research and teaching positions. Over 400 students study financial accounting and finance as their primary subject and, each year, approximately 70 Masters of Science in Business Studies graduate from the Department.

The tasks of the Assistant Professor include independent post-doctoral academic research, teaching duties as well as administrative tasks.

The tasks of the Associate Professor include independent academic research and related organisational responsibility. The Associate Professor participates extensively in teaching as well as thesis supervision and carries overall responsibility for research, educational and administrative activities within her/his area of expertise.

The teaching and supervision tasks will be focused either on the Bachelor or the Master's level programmes within the Department of Accounting and Finance. The research is allocated to the research group "Auditing and Control in Accounting".

The annual working time for both the Assistant and Associate Professor is 1624 hours. The tasks are agreed in more detail in the annual working plan.


Both positions require a relevant doctoral degree, the ability to conduct independent scientific work and deliver high-quality teaching. Experience in international scientific publishing is valued.

In addition, the position of Associate Professor requires solid research experience, the ability to lead a research group and acquire external research funding as well as manage research projects and budgets. International scientific work and collaboration are considered merits.

Sufficient skills in the Finnish language are a requirement. If a foreigner or a Finnish citizen, who is not a native speaker of Finnish or has not been educated in Finnish, applies, s/he can be granted an exemption from the Finnish language skill requirement without a separate application. Fluency in English is a prerequisite to succeed in the position.

Salary :

The salary is based on university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary for an Assistant Professor is based on demand levels 5-6 (2865-3340 €/month) and for an Associate Professor levels 6-7 (3340-3851 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance(4-46,3%).
