Investigation on viscosity of semisolid alloys by oscillatory method.
The study of rheological behavior of semi-solid metals plays a key role in optimizing casting production processes. In this regard, a field of research of particular interest concerns the study of the yield point of metals in the semi-solid state. This parameter, like many rheological parameters of this type of materials, is heavily dependent on material history and temperature but it is a process control key. Rheological tests in deformation or stress mode and in oscillatory mode can provide complete information for determining the yield point changing the test parameters (temperature, solid fraction, magnitude and duration of deformation of the material before testing). Such analyses will be carried out in particular on Al-Si alloys, as they are particularly suitable for industrial applications in semi-solid casting technologies.
