LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT OF A BIOWASTE-TO-BIOMETHANE PROCESS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF ORGANIC WASTES
The life cycle assessment study has to investigate how the overall sustainability of the anaerobic treatment of the biowaste can be improved. The utilization of the produced biogas for the upgrading to biomethane and its utilisation as transportation fuel has to be analysed. The study will quantify the entity of the related environmental burdens from a life cycle perspective and will utilise official data and measurements related to an anaerobic digestion plant. This has a potentiality of 100 t/d of organic waste and is equipped with a membrane separation unit able to upgrade 400 normal cubic meter/h of raw biogas. A sensitivity analysis has to be carried out by taking into account the effect of some parameters, such as the national energy mix, efficiency of biogas upgrading unit, distance of the waste production site, and final destination of solid digestate.
