Pigmented lesions of the face are commonly found in clinical practice and can often be a diagnostic problem. Particularly, early facial melanoma could present clinical features that are quite similar to extremely common benign lesions, such as lentigo solaris and actinic keratoses. Dermatoscopy (or dermoscopy) and confocal microscopy are 2 non-invasive diagnostic methodics designed for screening of melanocytic lesions and for early diagnosis of melanoma. The use of individual methods provides excellent results in the study of pigmented lesions on most of the body surface, but we are still far from achieving such successes in the study of face lesions
