In testis, the cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, regulate spermatogenesis: CB2 induces meiotic entry of spermatocytes (SPC), CB1 the differentiation of spermatids (SPT). Preliminary data show that CB1 regulates blood testis barrier (BTB) to be useful to meiosis, its mRNA is able to circularize while CB2 induces CB1 expression. This suggests the hypothesis that a functional clustering of CB1/CB2 receptors may synchronize differentiation and progression of SPC and SPT in spermatozoa (SPZ). To confirm data and hypothesis, mouse testis will be stimulated with a CB2 agonist and analyzed to verify the functional clustering of CB1/CB2 via gene expression analysis.
