Development and characterization of luminescent contrast agents as labels and sensors
The goal of the project is the development of new fluorescent contrast agents suitable as labels or sensors in biological or inorganic environment.
The following families of materials will be considered
1) Gold NP luminescent in the near infrared (NIR) capped with organic ligands
2) Ultra-bright organic NP
3) Melecules and NPs suitable as sensor for pH and metal ions in fluorescence microscopy. These probese will be used for investigating the growth of inorganic structures in inorganic matrix with particular attention for calcium and barium carbonate in silica rich environment and silica garden.
All the systems will be characterized using the main photophysical spectroscopic steady state and time resolved techniques including fluorescence anisotropy
All the systems will be investigated by optical fluorescence microscopy
