Biomarkers and Neuroimaging in multiple sclerosis
The increasing availability of approved therapies for the multiple sclerosis (MS) highlights the needed to develop new biomarkers that allow the individualization of treatment.
New MRI techniques are interesting to defining the profile of the disease especially in the early stages of the disease.
In addition to MRI, serum MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are promising MS biomarkers. Establishing the association between miRNAs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures of disease severity will help define their significance and potential impact.
The main objective of the research project is to evaluate the presence of early biomarkers in MS patients. The patient's characterization according to the aspects of MRI and miRNAs serum profile in the early phase of the disease could help to distinguish responders from no-responders to specific treatments.
