The hired researcher will study the biochemical activity and fertility characteristics of contaminated soils and sediment reclaimed with various phytoremediation options, including phytostabilization and phytoextraction, coming from long-term trials conducted in Italy and European Countries.
The researcher, will measure the chemical pools and bioavailability of contaminants and nutrients, the activity of enzymes involved in the biogeochemical cycles of the nutrients, microbial biomass and microbial respiration of soils and sediments, and will also determine soil and sediment toxicity using the BioTox test.
Moreover, according to the availability of time, the hired researcher will also study specific aspects of the ecological functionality of contaminated and reclaimed the composition of microbial communities of soils under phytoremediation using various techniques, so as to indicate a perspective of safe use of reclaimed soils and sediments in agriculture.
