extraction of SZ signal from CMB data and imaging-spectroscopy with Athena
The fellow will mainly work on the following projects of observational cosmology: 1) optimization of the SZ signal extraction in the low S/N regime from current and future CMB data sets; 2) development of new tools to fully exploit the spectral-imaging capabilities of the next ESA's X-ray telescope Athena with particular regards on background estimation. The research activity will also focus on the data analysis and physical interpretation of galaxy clusters observed in the microwave band with Planck and/or other SZ instruments like SPT and in the X-ray band with Chandra and XMM-Newton. The ideal candidate should have excellent knowledge of the physics of galaxy clusters and proved experience in data analysis of observations of galaxy clusters in both microwave and X-ray bands. It is also required an excellent knowledge of the different wavelet and curvelet based spectral-imaging techniques as well as programming skills with different languages that includes Fortan, C/C++, and IDL.
