Associate Professor/Professor/Chair, Biomedical Sciences

The University of New England COM seeks and outstanding biomedical scientist at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to serve as the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Science (DBS), with tenure for qualified applicants. The DBS has 25 full time faculty members who are involved in the medical school curriculum as well as serving to assist other health professional programs at UNE. The department has a robust and active group of neuroscience researchers with a particular emphasis on pain, as well as other areas of research strengths that include but are not limited to anatomy, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, immunology and infectious diseases, and medical education.

The University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine is the only medical school in Maine. It is located in Biddeford, Maine, approximately 30 minutes south of Portland and 90 minutes north of Boston. Biddeford’s waterfront campus provides easy access to city-based amenities and the benefits of a coastal area.

The Chair of Department of Biomedical Science reports directly to the Dean of COM. The Chair provides leadership and vision to the department and the College ensuring that the department and its members met the academic, scholarly and service missions of the College. This position plays the role of faculty advocate and department leader working closely with the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship to lead the department in developing nationally recognized programs in research and scholarship, while working with the Associate Deans of Academic Affairs and Clinical Education to deliver a nationally recognized medical curriculum.

Candidates whose research accomplishments are nationally recognized with sustained NIH and/or extramural funding, with experience in medical education, and proven leadership skills would be the most competitive and are encouraged to apply.

Questions may be addressed to the UNE COM Department of Biomedical Science Search Committee Chair, Dr. Cheryl Doane (cdoane@une.edu).
