Merck Research Lab is currently recruiting for a co-op
student within the Bioinformatics Group at Merck’s Exploratory Science Center
in Cambridge (MA). The student will be
trained in the analysis of data emanating from the microbiome (e.g.
metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and metabolomics) and associated human or
animal host (e.g. transcriptomics and proteomics). This data will be analyzed to determine the
role that the microbiome plays in human disease or to determine if the
microbiome can be modulated to improve responses to interventions (e.g.
vaccines or drug compounds).



- Required:
Candidates must be currently pursuing a
bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, Physics, or a
related field.
- Candidates
must be returning to school following the completion of the co-op.


- Candidates
must be available to work full-time for 4-6 months beginning in January of 2018
- Candidates
must have completed at least (1) full year of college study
prior to the co-op


- Knowledge
of statistical analysis and packages used to perform them (e.g. MINITAB,
R, Matlab),
- Familiarity
with Unix/Linux operating system
- Fluency in
a programming language (e.g. Python or Perl)
