Applications are invited for a UCD Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within the UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science to work on the 'Extracellular Vesicle Characterization' project. This is a temporary post.
Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) are a heterogeneous collection of circulating membrane-bound nanoparticles that are secreted by all cell types and are found in natural body fluids including blood, saliva and urine. EVs carry functional proteins, RNA and DNA that undergo horizontal transfer to recipient cells and alter recipient cell properties. Thus, the secretion and reciprocal exchange of EVs between cells constitutes a new cell signalling paradigm that is not completely understood.
Experience in EV isolation and purification, RNA/protein isolation and bioinformatic RNA-Seq data analysis is required. Experience in the growth and culture of haematopoietic cell lines and patient-derived primary cells together with basic biochemical and molecular techniques including cell viability /cell migration assays, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, qRT-PCR and flow cytometry will be advantageous.
