Assistant Professor of Immunology and Microbiology, J. Craig Venter Institute, La Jolla, CA

The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) Department of Infectious Disease / Genomic Medicine is seeking faculty members at the Assistant Professor level at our La Jolla, CA or Rockville, MD campus. We plan to recruit several faculty with strong backgrounds and interest in the interrelated disciplines of microbiology and immunology, including those who leverage ‘Omics technologies and bioinformatics methods to advance their research in this field. The JCVI is an institute that has pioneered human microbiome research. We are particularly interested in scientists who seek to understand the complex relationships between the human microbiome and the immune system at the mucosal interface. JCVI offers powerful technologies such as genome engineering, single cell genomics and multi-‘Omics approaches to elucidate the roles of microbiota in human disease processes including, but not limited to host-pathogen-commensal interactions, microbiome-autoimmune disease relationships and the influence of the microbiome in nutrition. Candidates that merge wet bench science with informatic approaches are welcome.

Successful candidates will conduct innovative, independent research, obtain extramural funding, take advantage of interactions with our interdisciplinary, highly collegial group of scientists within JCVI, and complement existing research strengths within the organization. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. and a strong track record of publications and collaborations. Postdoctoral research is preferred but not required.
