Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Biomedicine - 17/11831
At the University of Bergen, Department of Biomedicine, a full-time temporary position as postdoctoral fellow is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the project ”Defective energy metabolism in ME/CFS”, financed by the Norwegian Research Council (RCN, NFR). The expected start is October 2017.
ME/CFS is a debilitating disease with unknown mechanism and without standardized treatment. The main focus of the project is to bring new knowledge about the mechanisms behind ME/CFS disease, thus identifying key factors that can facilitate the development of biomarkers and new treatments. We will conduct extensive biochemical analyzes in samples from healthy and sick subjects in order to identify factors that are abnormal in ME/CFS patients, especially in terms of energy metabolism. Factors that appear to play a decisive role in ME/CFS will be further explored through laboratory studies of cellular and molecular interactions. The project is closely linked to clinical trials of new treatments against ME/CSF, and we hope to make discoveries that will benefit patients quickly.
The postdoctoral will focus on cellular and molecular mechanisms that may explain the changed energy metabolism of ME/CFS patients. The research will include studies of features such as cellular metabolism, cell signaling, mitochondrial physiology, cellular stress, and metabolic adaptation.
