Scientist or Technical Scientist at BIO-DIVE, JAMSTEC
Department of Marine Biodiversity Research (BIO-DIVE), JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a full-time TENURE-TRACK position as Scientist or Technical Scientist. The successful applicant will be engaged in the medium-term plan.
Details of the research can be found at http://www.jamstec.go.jp/bdive/e/
Department of Marine Biodiversity Research (BIO-DIVE) aims to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms and processes of marine eukaryotic evolution, including those involving deep-sea eukaryota and deep-sea ecosystem structures. It also aims to evaluate the impact of human activities on these types of marine ecosystems and to contribute to society by conveying knowledge obtained through this research. Our main research tools include remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and human occupied vehicles (HOVs) for deep-sea research. We are recruiting for the positions of Scientist and Technical Scientist to perform research using these tools to study the diversity and ecology of deep-sea eukaryotes, as well as the social problems that may be addressed through knowledge of deep-sea ecosystems.
The successful applicant will have a thorough understanding of the diversity and ecology of deep-sea eukaryotes. This knowledge is fundamental to understanding the overall picture of deep-sea ecosystems, processes for marine eukaryotic evolution, and means by which knowledge of deep-sea ecosystems can contribute to solving social problems. These positions require basic skills in both ecology and phylogenetics, as well as advanced scientific techniques in these fields. The successful applicant will advance their research agenda while participating in international projects.
