Cerebrovascular stress: a role for platelets in Alzheimer's Disease.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterised by progressive neuronal death with consequent dementia. Oxidative stresses in the brain and in cerebrovasculature are associated with the onset and progression of AD. It is well known that platelet dysfunctions are correlated with AD but the role of cerebrovascular stress in this process is not known. In this project we will investigate the ability of amyloid peptides to induce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in platelets and their involvement in pathogenesis of AD.
