Part-time, Non-Tenure Track Lecturer - Plant and Microbial Biology

 

The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology (PMB) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of part-time, non-tenure track lecturer positions (including summer sessions). Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one calendar year. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Teaching Responsibilities: We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach lecture, seminar and/or laboratory courses in Plant Biology and Microbiology, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website.

 

Basic Qualifications: A PhD degree or equivalent degree, or a Master's degree or equivalent degree in an area related to Plant and Microbial Biology is required by the time of application.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Documented experience in teaching one of the biological sciences at the college level is strongly preferred.

 

Interested individuals should submit a 1-2 page cover letter describing research experience, a statement on teaching philosophy and experience, along with a current CV and the names and contact information of three referees. Letters of reference may be requested of finalists. It is optional to include a statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching, and/or service.
