REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in the biological sciences and postdoctoral (or equivalent postgraduate) experience with training and research in the area of bacteriology.  Candidates must address their potential teaching effectiveness for courses in microbiology and the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with departmental colleagues and with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  The successful candidate will have a solid record of published research commensurate with years since receiving Ph.D. and the ability to develop and sustain an independent research program involving undergraduate and Master’s-level students that will lead to original, peer-reviewed publications.             

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  At least two years of postdoctoral research experience is preferred.  Preference will be given to applicants who have evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college level. The successful candidate will enhance and complement existing programmatic strengths.  Desired areas of research interest include, but are not limited to: bacterial ecology, bacterial physiology, and/or bacterial genetics/genomics. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.

DUTIES:   The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to instruction in current microbiology courses and to develop new undergraduate and graduate lecture and laboratory courses in the area of their expertise. Teaching responsibilities will include some combination of a biology major core molecular/cellular biology course, lower division majors courses, upper division electives, and graduate/advanced undergraduate courses in candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independently funded research program involving undergraduate and Master’s students. In addition to modest opportunities for internal research funding, there is wide-spread support for the attainment of external research monies.  The successful candidate will also participate in activities serving the department, college, university and community.
