Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Cedars-Sinai) seeks a distinguished clinician/scientist and visionary leader to accelerate the impact of its Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute (SOCCI) as it continues to build its world-class reputation in cancer treatment, care, research, education, and community engagement. The SOCCI is pioneering extraordinary advances in scientific discovery with broad translational impact, making an immediate and life-saving difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families across its community and around the world. Today, SOCCI is the largest provider of cancer care in the Los Angeles area and the second largest in the state.
As Cedars-Sinai is committed to translating innovative scientific findings to its patients, the Director will be a scientific visionary, clinical leader, and experienced program builder who articulates a clear vision for the next generation of medicine. The Director will provide strategic leadership for the re-envisioned Comprehensive Cancer Institute, including creating a pathway to NCI designation.
The Director will be experienced in achieving top decile levels of performance through the creation of a collaborative culture, mindset, and operating philosophy that effectively meld together the various disciplines and physician practice models into a committed and aligned leadership team. The ability to embrace and integrate research across the clinical enterprise and scientific spectrum, including all disciplines in translational science and population health, is essential. Having the knowledge to incorporate emerging technologies, knowledge, and applications from basic to translational sciences will be required to ensure that SOCCI assumes a position of national leadership.
The Director will be afforded the required resources and empowerment to build the highest quality academic cancer program based on excellence in cancer investigation and clinical care. The Director will maintain policies and procedures appropriate to the mission, recruit new and support existing talent, and serve as the “face” of the Institute in scientific, clinical, and professional forums, as well as function in an ambassadorial role with the community and Cedars-Sinai's multiple stakeholders. The Director will work through the department chairs and Medical Network leadership to hire cancer-focused faculty, and will be involved in annual goal setting of cancer faculty members, as well as assessing faculty productivity, and evaluation of academic performance. The Director will have a primary oversight of the “Board of Governors Center for Cancer Research.”
An MD, MD/PhD, and or PhD or equivalent is required. Candidates must be an active cancer investigator with current or immediate past NCI funding or the equivalent, and have a track record of progressive scientific, clinical and administrative leadership roles, either in a designated cancer center or in a related, relevant organization.
