The Medical University of South Carolina and the NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center seek applicants with expertise in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to fill two available positions at the Assistant (tenure track) and/or Associate level. The University is initiating a major investment in the areas of cryo-EM and NMR that build upon its existing X-ray crystallography infrastructure/expertise and will coalesce into a comprehensive Structural Biology Program.  The successful candidate(s) will have the opportunity to build the University’s cryo-EM infrastructure from the ground up and play a leading role in the development of a vibrant cryo-EM program to be housed in a state-of-the-art facility.  The successful candidate(s) will be an expert in the methodology and application of cryo-EM and use biochemical/biophysical approaches to gain insights into the macromolecular machinery underlying fundamental biological processes related to cancer.

The research interests of HCC faculty focus on mechanisms of signal transduction, transcription, RNA biogenesis and processing, protein folding and degradation, lipid biogenesis and trafficking, cell signaling, DNA repair, chromatin dynamics, cell-cell communication, tumor immunity, and cell division. 

We seek candidates that have demonstrated excellence, originality and productivity in research. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and postdoctoral experience in biochemistry/biophysics and structural biology.  Tenure-track candidates are expected to develop a well-funded, high impact research program.  Applicants at the level of Associate Professor are expected to have an established extramurally funded research program along with a robust publication record.
