Summary of Position:
The Director of the Solid Tumor Translational Science Shared Resource (STTS) functions as the leader of this core facility within the Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) overseeing and managing all operations and activities of the core; collaborates with clinical and translational faculty on the design and development of innovative investigator initiated clinical trials that include hypothesis-driven correlative studies associated with solid tumor oncology clinic trials studies to insure that clinical outcomes are correlated with laboratory measurements; Identify and develop strategic partnerships between clinical investigators and appropriate pharmaceutical/biomedical companies to gain greater access to new drugs/compounds. Provide education to faculty and staff regarding oncology development processes, issues, needs and opportunities; Coordinate and provide study-wide corresponding correlative science testing/analysis for clinical trials performed through oncology network groups; Help form and work closely with tumor-type specific teams of basic scientists and clinicians to drive the movement of scientific ideas between the laboratory and clinic; Direct a research laboratory that serves as a central laboratory for clinical trial specimen acquisition and processing and that provides a portfolio of biomarker assays to be used for correlative studies in oncology Phase I/II clinical trials; Provide project management support for the analysis of data and integrate results of molecular assays with the clinical data; Provide project management support for the analysis of data and integrate results of molecular assays with the clinical data; Investigate literature for new trends and oversee and evaluate current and new assays/techniques; Provide project management for studies that utilize resources available through other core facilities, investigator laboratories and outside vendors; responsible to the OSUCCC Associate Director for Shared Resources for the performance of the STTS Shared Resource.
A Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline or related field of cancer research or equivalent combination of education and experience required; Doctoral degree in a biomedical science field strongly preferred; Considerable demonstrated success in a progressively responsible management capacity required; Strategic or long-range planning experience required. Expertise and experience in molecular genetics and clinical drug development preferred; Experience in working in cancer pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidate may be requested to completed a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
