Post-doctoral university assistant

One vacant position for a full time Post-doctoral university assistant in the area of natural sciences, field of physics, at the Department of Physics - University of Rijeka

Beside meeting general employment requirements, applicants should satisfy the conditions prescribed by the Science and Higher Education Act (Official Gazette 123/03, 198/03, 105/04, 174/04, 2/07 and Decision 46/07, 45/09, 63/11, 94/13, 139/12 i 101/14, 60/15).

Required documentation:

 - Covering letter including: position title, statement about why the candidate should be considered suitable for the position, name and contact details (telephone and email address) of two professional referees. It should be noted that referees might be contacted at the short-listing stage.

- CV (full name and address, qualifications, country of birth, citizenship and residency status, employment history, other relevant experience and major achievements in research, teaching and professional scholarship)

- List of publications and/or significant academic achievements

- Copies of up to 3 most important publications (on CD only)

- Evidence of appropriate qualifications, scientific degree and scientific title

- If relevant and available, include a description of service to the current employer and community, or of teaching experience

Eligibility criteria

-  A PhD in Physics in the area relevant to the appointment (Astrophysics, Particle Physics or Astroparticle Physics)

-  A track record of success in producing quality research outputs, including publications in peer-reviewed international research journals

- Programming skills

- Working experience with Linux OS and Root   

- Demonstrated high levels of written and oral communication skills in English

- Well-developed interpersonal skills, past success in working effectively as a member of an international team

- Working experience with Cherenkov telescopes will be considered as an advantage

- Teaching experience will be considered as an advantage.

All applicants will be expected to spend 35% FTE on teaching at the University of Rijeka.

Foreign citizens are expected to achive proficiency in Croatian language needed for teaching at the undergraduate university level within 2 years. If all conditions are satisfied (language proficiency, teaching experience and research excellence), the candidate can be considered for an assistent professor position.

A document (max 2 pages) addressing the eligibility criteria is needed. It should include a specific statement addressing each eligibility criteria point.

Research Field

Conduct research into Physics in research areas of interest to the Department of Physics of the University of Rijeka, especially in Very High Energy Gamma-ray astronomy.
