We are seeking a Research Scientist (Downstream Process Development) for a 2-year position at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, Korea to work within the Vaccine Process Development Unit.


I Job Purpose

This incumbent is responsible for leading Downstream Process Development of vaccine candidates and intermediates. This includes whole cell bacterial and viral vaccines, subunit vaccines and/or their intermediates (polysaccharides and recombinant proteins). Responsibilities include, assessment different expression systems, optimization, scale up, assay development (in process and release) and tech transfer to vaccine manufacturing partners. Responsibilities also include preparation/review of technical documents including development/tech transfer reports, batch records, SOPs, CMC regulatory submissions and writing scientific articles.


I The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology or equivalent
  • 3 + years’ experience with downstream process development in academia or industry required; upstream process development experience preferred
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience in downstream process development and scale up
  • Experience with various separation and filtration techniques (chromatography, tangential flow, normal flow)
  • Hands-on experience in purification and characterization of proteins, glycoproteins, and complex carbohydrates
  • Experience with development of in-process and release assays
  • Familiarity with cGMP
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated success in writing grants and authoring publications
