Within the institute for materials research (IMO-IMOMEC) of Hasselt University there is an interdisciplinary PhD-position in the complementary domains of thin film photovoltaic solar cells and batteries. The goal is to develop unconventional techniques (i.e., both theoretical and experimental) that benefit from synergistic interactions between the state-of-the-art characterization methods and theoretical frameworks in both domains. The focus of interest in this research is to shed more light on the limiting phenomena at both bulk and interfaces. The as obtained fundamental insights will be employed in order to improve cell designs for better performance, stability, and longer lifetime. The research will be carried out in close collaboration between the solar cell and battery research groups of Hasselt University which are active members in an important international network of EnergyVille (i.e., a European knowledge center focused on the fields of sustainable energy and intelligent energy systems, see www.energyville.be). Besides being involved in the research and generation of scientific outputs, it is expected that the PhD student actively participates in the educational and outreach tasks of the faculty of Engineering Technology.
