Comorbidity clusters and patterns of health care utilization in children with special care needs
This project will use demographic, clinical and service utilization data drawn from administrative databases. The study population is a cohort of children with special health care needs, living the local health authority of Bologna and extracted from the hospital discharge records database of the years 2013-2014.
The relationship among chronic health conditions will be analysed using a factor analysis of a tetrachoric correlation matrix. Differences in health care utilization and costs (hospitalizations, emergency department visits, drug use, primary care and specialty visits, home visits) among clusters will be analysed using multilevel multiple regression models.
In the 1st-6th months, data will be extracted from administrative databases and the algorithm will be set up.
In the 7th to 12th months, data will be compared with US data and 2 publications will be prepared and submitted to peer-review international journals
