The Cardiometabolic Disease therapeutic area at Merck is seeking a Senior Scientist who can contribute to ongoing efforts to identify, validate, and advance drug targets for treating cardiac or cardiometabolic disease. The individual will be expected to independently design, plan, and execute experiments as well as provide scientific, technical, and strategic input into the target portfolio, preclinical animal models and in vitro assays supporting the programs.

Primary responsibilities will include the conduct of in vitro and ex vivo studies, but in vivo skills are a plus. Other desirable attributes include a high level of self-motivation, strong technical skills, strong communication skills (written and oral), and being able to work productively in collaborative and cross functional team environments. The individual will also be expected to champion and launch new initiatives and drive innovation.



- BS with a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience or PhD with 0-2 years of experience in pharmacology, physiology, pathology, or related field


- Molecular biology, cellular biology, cell-based assay, and ex vivo sample processing and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to perform standard procedures in live rodent models and to process specimens for analysis.
- Research experience in heart failure, vascular injury, chronic kidney diseases, and other relevant metabolic complications.


- Experience in one or more of the following areas: assay development, rodent model development and characterization, and rodent imaging technology.
- Experience with cutting-edge technologies for investigating human biology, e.g. iPSCs, 3D organoidal cultures, organ on a chip, etc.
- Experience with drug administration in rodents is a plus.
