This position will support Merck pre-clinical and clinical vaccine programs in the Vaccine Analytical Department (Vaccine Characterization group). As a member of the Vaccine Characterization group the Scientist will be responsible for developing and executing in-depth characterization methods to support advancing vaccine candidates. The incumbent will evaluate new technologies related to characterization of complex vaccines. This work will be applicable to many different types of vaccine platforms including nucleotides, live-viruses, recombinant proteins and conjugates. The scientist will work under the supervision of a Principal Scientist.



- A BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related field with at least three (3) years of relevant experience, OR a MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related field.


- General understanding of GMP requirements

- Hands on experience with HPLC, UV, ICP, DLS, SEC or related techniques

- Experience with large molecule (biological) characterization


- Experience with light scattering based techniques for biological molecules

- Experience with transcription/translation assays for RNA
