The Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University (bioengineering.stanford.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at all levels (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with experience and accomplishment. Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.

The search committee consists of diverse faculty from the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, and Humanities & Sciences; we are seeking individuals who are fusing engineering and the physical sciences with biology to promote discovery or invention in any relevant area (e.g., agriculture, art, basic science, biotechnology, education, environmental science, materials science, manufacturing, medicine, other). Our faculty aretrained not only in bioengineering but also in many diverse disciplines.  We are interested in applications from individuals of any discipline who have demonstrated or can provide clear evidence for, their potential to realize outstanding scientific or technical achievements in developing, translating and applying new ideas, tools, or capacities to bioengineering. Ideal candidates should also demonstrate strong communication, teaching, and leadership skills, as well as an ability to contribute actively to a rapidly growing Stanford Department.  We are especially open to candidates who would embrace joint appointments with other departments and schools at Stanford. A sustaining focus of all bioengineering searches is to contribute to departmental diversity.  We enthusiastically invite applications from women and underrepresented minority groups.  We also encourage applications from individuals representing disciplines or opportunities that are not yet well-established within bioengineering, broadly defined.

A strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising is also essential.  Teaching responsibilities will include participation in and development of both undergraduate and graduate courses, and strong engagement in a core curriculum that serves to define bioengineering for future generations. The supervision of doctoral students and academic advising of trainees at all levels is also expected.

Applications will be accepted only online. Please visit our website: https://bioengineering.stanford.edu/about/open-opportunities-positions-department-bioengineering. This web site can receive applications starting September 1, 2017. Review of received applications will start October 15, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. Applications should include a brief research and teaching plan, a detailed C.V. including a publications list, and the names and addresses of at least five references. Parallel, related searches are likely to be open at Stanford. For candidates who are qualified and interested in multiple faculty searches at Stanford, we encourage applications to each solicitation; we will coordinate our search with others and consider joint appointments. Successful applicants may benefit from collaborative opportunities at interdisciplinary institutes and centers, including, for example, Bio-X (biox.stanford.edu), SNI (neuroscience.stanford.edu), SLAC (slac.stanford.edu), ChEM-H (chemh.stanford.edu), and JIMB (jimb.stanford.edu).
