The University Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (UTCOM&LS) is in an era of growth in clinical programs, interdisciplinary funded research, improved financial health, and enhanced national recognition for the quality of its graduate programs and undergraduate medical education. The University of Toledo (UT) Board of Trustees and ProMedica Health System – a 12 hospital regional system ranked among America’s 100 best by HealthgradesTM – recently announced they will be entering into a fifty-year Academic Affiliation Agreement which includes a commitment by ProMedica to financially support the development of research and education programs for an academic medical center that will be among the best in the country.
The Department of Neurosciences at the University of Toledo Health Sciences Campus is highly committed to advance the understanding of the nervous system in health and disease through innovative research, exceptional teaching and mentoring, and dedicated service to the broader academic and surrounding communities. The recent academic affiliation between the College of Medicine and ProMedica is providing resources and opportunities to expand UT’s faculty and programs and bolster the research mission incorporating molecular, cellular, and systems neuroscience to address important problems relevant to health, disease and aging in the nervous system.
It is with great enthusiasm that UTCOM&LS is conducting a national search for the appointment of a talented and accomplished neuroscientist for the positions of Chair of the Neurosciences Department and inaugural Director of Research for the forthcoming Neurosciences Institute. Serving as Chair, the successful candidate will be charged with expanding the neurosciences research portfolio of the Department and to lead interdisciplinary groups and foster collaboration with other basic science departments on campus and beyond, ultimately attracting national and international interest to the UTCOM&LS.
As the Director of Research of the Neurosciences Institute, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity develop a clear vision for the programmatic growth of translational research missions of the Neurosciences Institute which is scheduled to open in January 2018 and to lead and to foster collaboration with clinical departments and other basic science departments. The new leader will be provided with recruitment packages for additional faculty commensurate with their vision and strategic plan to drive the growth of the neurosciences research portfolio of the institution.
The successful candidate will have a PhD and/or MD with a strong track record of continuous basic science extramural funding, outstanding publications, and has demonstrated commitment in graduate and/or medical education.
