Postdoctoral Researcher-Vascular Biology
An NIH R01-funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Beth Roman in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh. We use zebrafish and cell culture models to study the interplay between molecular and biomechanical pathways in the control of endothelial cell behavior. Our primary focus is on endothelial bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/ALK1 signaling, which is disrupted in the genetic vascular disorder, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). We are looking for a productive, motivated scientist to employ genome editing techniques, next generation sequencing approaches, and dynamic confocal imaging to determine how BMP/ALK1 signaling and mechanical force interact to control endothelial cell migration and prevent development of vascular malformations.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD in biology or other relevant field, a strong publication record, and excellent oral and written English communication skills. Expertise in confocal and/or two-photon imaging and quantitative image analysis is strongly preferred. Previous experience with zebrafish and some understanding of biomechanics is desired.
The University of Pittsburgh is an interactive, collegial environment for biomedical research. Our vascular developmental biology laboratory collaborates with Pitt bioengineers (Dr. Lance Davidson laboratory) and structural biologists (Dr. Andrew Hinck laboratory) to answer complex questions in developmental biology and disease. Our laboratory is part of the Pitt Vascular Medicine Institute and serves as the research core for the UPMC/Pitt HHT Center of Excellence, affording the opportunity to translate research findings to a clinical care setting.
