Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers -- a fast-paced STM publisher based in the Greater New York area -- offers a superb opportunity to play a pivotal part in the launch of a major new peer-reviewed science journal.

We are seeking a talented, inquisitive Managing Editor to have a critical role in managing all aspects of an exciting new journal devoted to the cutting-edge field of gene editing – The CRISPR Journal (see http://crisprjournal.com). CRISPR is a new gene editing technology that has profound implications for the life sciences, from gene therapy and embryo editing to engineering new crops.

The Managing Editor will be a crucial linchpin in the editorial office, coordinating all aspects of the peer review and journal publication process. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to): overseeing day-to-day journal administrative duties, including managing papers, overseeing peer-review, and organizing editorial calendars; working closely with the chief editor(s), academic editorial advisory board, and publishing colleagues; commissioning front matter news and review content; organizing roundtable discussions; writing press releases and articles for the journal and/or sister publications; representing the journal on lab visits, conferences and trade shows; and soliciting academic papers in conjunction with the academic editors and editorial board members.

The Managing Editor will join a privately held publishing company based in New Rochelle, New York, best known as the publisher of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News and more than 80 peer-reviewed titles. The successful candidate will work closely with talented editorial, marketing, sales and production team, and be closely mentored by personnel with decades of publishing experience. (S)he must be a self-starter, well organized, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; (s)he must have the ability to communicate swiftly and effectively on multiple related subject areas to many different teams. Accuracy and organizational skills are paramount.

The successful candidate will have a degree in the life sciences, and preferably a PhD; previous editorial experience is preferred but not essential, as is familiarity with CRISPR/gene editing research. Experience with web-based manuscript submission and peer-review systems is also a plus.

Applicants should send their resume and a cover letter (email or regular mail) detailing their interest, aptitude and qualifications for this position, to: Dr Kevin Davies, Executive Editor, The CRISPR Journal, 140 Huguenot St, New Rochelle NY 10801; email: kdavies at liebertpub dot com. Informal inquiries are welcomed (call 914-740-2273). Applications are due no later than Monday, October 2nd, 2017.
