The solar sail can be used for the design of end-of-life mission of small satellites. This research is aimed at studying the interaction of the orbit of a satellite equipped with a solar sail with its attitude and developing control algorithms for stabilising the spacecraft-sail system. The interaction of the sail with the entire space debris population will be quantified through an index and algorithms to avoid collisions will be developed. This research will focus on the theoretical and numerical study of the orbital dynamics and attitude around the Earth to provide the basis for an understanding of the evolution of the deorbiting trajectory. This will enable the design and optimisation of the disposal strategy, including some technological developments.
